Peter Walsh

In the March 2010 issue of O Magazine there was a great article and pictures from a home office redo with Peter Walsh.  If I could find a link to it, I'd post it, but I can't.  So here are the highlights:

  • A 2008 study found that if people regularly tidied their homes and offices, most would gain between 16 minutes and one hour a day when they could be working.
  • Your desk should be like the driver's seat of a car: only crucial items within arm's reach.  Most people need a computer, a phone, pens, paper, and maybe a printer below.  That's it.
  • When your space reaches capacity, it's the one in, one out rule:  If you buy a new book, out goes an old one.
  • At first it's just a pain, but after a couple of weeks you can't believe how great you feel.  (He's referring to setting aside 10 minutes at the end of the day to clean your desk and ready for tomorrow.)
