At the end of the day, are your family’s possessions tidily stowed or are they carelessly strewn about the house?
If you’re like most people, putting away the endless stream of coats, knapsacks, mail, shoes and toys is an organizational challenge. Try this approach: Use canvas bags as individual catchalls for each person’s belongings. Family members add items throughout the day, then just before bedtime everyone empties their bag and puts their stuff away. (If you live in a two-story house, place the totes on the stairs to help minimize the number of up-and-down trips.) Totes also help to bust clutter. A small one is great for holding the daily mail while larger bags can store toys or outerwear.
