The basics

Sometimes we are so overwhelmed with STUFF that we forget about the basics. I recently read an article at babycenter.com and I want to share some of their basic organizing tips with you:

Keep it simple. You may be tempted to rush out and buy a fancy container system to jumpstart your organizing efforts, but buying things to store your belongings before you begin organizing them is premature (not to mention expensive). Wait until you've gone through your stuff before investing in storage systems. Until then, a few cardboard boxes are all you need to sort and purge.

Set up an "in box." Place it near the front door (or wherever it's convenient) to serve as a holding tank for mail (that's the stuff that normally ends up on top of your dishwasher or television). A basket big enough to hold magazines and manila envelopes works well. Sort through its contents during downtimes, such as while you watch the evening news, moving important letters, bills, and mail that requires action to your desk or home office and tossing out the rest as soon as you get it. It's implied here that you will do this every day.

Set up an "out box." A basket or shelf near the door comes in handy for things that need to go out: paid bills, school permission slips, dry cleaning, or your dog's leash.

Friends, these are simple, SIMPLE, tips that make a daily difference. Setting up an "in box" and an "out box" is a great place to start organizing you, your stuff, and your family.
