A friend of mine and I were discussing his deep freeze. With the ice storm of '09 he was without power for over a week. He lost everything that was in his packed freezer. He was so frustrated by how much food they discovered they didn't even remember was in there. Quality foods like thick bacon and veal were the most frustrating. He did one of the smartest things once the power was back on. He set up a system for incoming food and he never wants it to get that packed again.
His system is simple (those are usually the best). He bought some plastic baskets and each basket is designated for items that are alike. One basket is for chicken, one for fruits, one for sausage, etc.
